Video game domination, Xbox rules!

by

games
In 2011 Microsoft dominated the video game landscape. Accounting for an amazing 40% of video game sales. The total number is around 6.7 billion dollars. The sales breakdown fairly simply into these two categories: Consoles which accounted for 2.1 billion and 4.6 billion on games. The numbers are staggering and the overall numbers in 2011 reached 17.02 billion which sounds like a lot but is actually down from 2010 by around 8 percent. These numbers only account for physical retail sales and don’t factor in any digital content that would be purchased through the Live network, PSN or Nintendo. The question becomes, will the dominance continue thru 2012? This year it has been announced that Microsoft and Sony will be introducing their new consoles at E3 and who knows if those will be available in the same year, which is commonly not the case. Last year Nintendo introduced their newest console and that is still in development and will most likely have a locked arrival date around E3 or else what will Nintendo announce? Another DS?
